Dining Room Transformation

When we moved into our new home, I knew I wanted to tackle a ton of home renovations, but this one wasn’t first on my list. Looking back, this probably SHOULD’VE been and here is why.
When people walk into your home for the first time, you want to give them the wow factor based on the first thing they see. Your entry… well, we do not have a grand entry, so this room is basically the first thing you see.
While everyone loves to move into a new house and just get rid of all your old furniture and start fresh, that was NOT in my budget, so I had to make due with what we had. The funny thing is that we ended up having the EXACT same dining furniture as the previous owners… how does that happen?? Our previous dining room was almost twice the size of the new one, but I thought if the previous owners could make their table and chairs fit in there, I could too (since it was the exact same). IT. WAS. TIGHT….. but again, this room wasn’t a priority for me, so I just ignored how snug it was.

Let me remind you trend was about to happen… CHALK PAINT…let’s whitewash EVERYTHING!!! My husband went out of town and I decided to basically whitewash the entire house, including this table and chairs.

Fast forward to when I realized that I wanted to make our home for US. Do you know how many times we used this dining room? Twice… MAYBE during Friendsgiving. That’s silly right?
After posting the table and chairs on marketplace, this lady came over to look and without even sitting down she said “here take my monies, this is going home with me.” (Probably not exactly like that, but she was excited for this new set.) I was ready to change it up and make this room functional for US.

We immediately started using this space and the only regret was not doing it sooner.
Changing the functionality of a room and making it work for your family will always be the smarter move. If your family sits at the dining room table often or if you host a lot of events and need that space, keep it! Do what works best for you. For us, we prefer to sit, sip and chat in this new layout.
Now that it’s functional for us, I should just leave it alone right? Pssshhh. This wouldn’t be fun or interesting if I just left things alone – which is why I am in the business I am in.

Okay… we are ALMOST current! By this point, I have come a LONG way since the chalk paint days. I’ve acquired a wealth of new skills that have empowered me to pursue my design journey cost-effectively through DIY projects. Not only does it significantly reduce expenses, but it also brings me genuine joy as I continually expand my expertise in home renovation.
I bought some power tools and learned how to add trim all around my house. I learned how to do minor electrical work like hang this new chandelier and I am not afraid to break out the paint and paint the room myself.
The hardest part is getting started. You have to believe that YOU CAN DO IT and you cannot be afraid of failing. Trust me, I have failed a lot, but it’s not slowing me down and only pushes me to do better and learn more!

My sitting room is all complete…FOR NOW! Hope you enjoy the transformation as much as we do!
